Current building codes for commercial and residential development in Bermuda.
Codes in Force
Effective 12 January 2015 there are new building codes in force in Bermuda. The Bermuda Building Code 2014 adopts codes for commercial and residential development.
Commercial and Residential Development
Select the appropriate code below or review how the adopted international and national standards apply in Bermuda.
Commercial Development
For commercial development, the Bermuda Building Code 2014 modifies and adopts the International Building Code 2012 and four other Codes – mechanical, fuel gas, plumbing and energy conservation – all of which are produced by the International Code Council (ICC). Also, the Bermuda Building Code 2014 modifies and adopts the National Electrical Code 2011 and the current version of the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) Code produced by the NFPA.
The ‘Bermuda appropriate’ modifications to the international and national codes now adopted are detailed in the Bermuda Building Code 2014. You must read these in conjunction with the ICC and NFPA codes.
Residential Development
For residential development, the Bermuda Building Code 2014 adopts the Bermuda Residential Building Code 2014 produced by the Department of Planning.
