What is a Building Permit?

A Building Permit ensures that the statutory and regulatory requirements of Planning Permission and current Building Codes are met while construction work, additions, renovations and/or changes to a building operation are carried out.
Why do we have a Building Code?
The intent of the Building Code is to safeguard public health, safety and general welfare through:
    • structural strength
    • means of egress facilities
    • stability
    • sanitation
    • adequate light and ventilation
    • energy conservation
    • safety to life and property from fire and other hazards attributed to the built environment
    • safety to fire fighters and emergency responders during emergency operations.
Current Building Codes:

There are (4) four types of Building Permits:

Letters of objection and/or representation should be emailed to planningfrontdesk@gov.bm referencing the PLAN or SUB number in the subject line.
